The Lastlight Chronicles
The mighty Altamar! For many, the name resonates as a place of hope and loss, unity and sacrifice. Once a humble fort, the city was built up by the remnants of the Magisterium and free peoples to become the frontline's war capital. This is where the most significant treaties were signed by the free people during those long nights, and here was the launching point for the final push that ended the War. It's a diverse place; originally a city dominated by humans, many of the races who came during those days never left, and the city is home to elves, half-elves, halflings and more besides. Notably, a large contingent of half-orcs can be found in Altamar's nobility and soldiery; Altamar was the place where a number of Orc tribes turned to the side of the free peoples. While half-orcs are shunned in many cities, in Altamar they are an integral part of the city's culture.
Sitting as it does on the broad floodplains between the River Thuring and the mountains of Sunder, the high walls and spires of the fortress-city can be seen for miles. At some points of the year, the river bursts its banks and the city looks as if it rises from the sea itself.
